On May 12, 2026, Parliament confirmed the detention of Asante Akim North Member of Parliament (MP), Ohene Kwame Frimpong, in the Netherlands.
Subsequently, some social media users (here and here) claimed the MP is a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). The claims were shared alongside a supposed party membership card belonging to the MP.
Other users shared photographs of Ohene Kwame Frimpong with key members of the ruling party, including President John Dramani Mahama, and Rashid Tanko Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections (here) as proof of his NDC membership.

Is the Asante Akim North MP an NDC MP? This report will fact-check the claim.
Fact-check
Ohene Kwame Frimpong contested as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections, and was elected as the Member of Parliament of the constituency.
He is one of the four independent MPs, who in the 9th Parliament have decided to sit and caucus with the NDC Majority. Opting to caucus with the NDC does not make him an NDC MP. Also his political party as captured on parliament’s website is independent.

Ghanafact further reviewed his supposed NDC membership card and found that some features are not regular. We compared the circulating membership card with three samples (here, here, and here) posted on the party’s website and realised that it appears that his photo had been placed over the green template of the card, instead of being integrated into the card. This is likely a sign that it was manipulated.

GhanaFact additionally passed the image through Google Gemini to check for potential AI-manipulation. Although Gemini did not indicate the image was made with Google AI, it offered visual clues that suggest that the image was dropped onto the green template of the card.
“In the card for Ohene Kwame Frimpong, the photo is a literal rectangle with a solid lavender/grey background.
- It completely covers the green background pattern of the card.
- There is no attempt to blend the edges or use a transparent background (PNG).
- This is a classic “digital paste-up” where a pre-existing headshot was simply dropped onto a graphic template.”
Verdict:
The claim that the Asante Akim North MP is an NDC MP is misleading, and the image of his membership card is likely manipulated.
