On July 29, 2026, the host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Paul Adom-Otchere, claimed that the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Collins Dauda, had once won his seat by more than 10 votes.
Speaking about Boakye Ayarko’s aspiration for the chairmanship position for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) upcoming national executive election, Paul said, “Boakye was the first person who showed me a constituency in the Bono Ahafo region. And the MP there, he’s won the seat so many times. The MP does not win the seat. And viewers, when I mention the MP’s name, you can check. I’m going to mention his name. The MP doesn’t win the seat by more than 10 votes.
“Those who are very political, you already know who I’m talking about. He’s never won. He’s won it about five times. I think he’s one of the oldest serving MPs in Parliament. He doesn’t come to Parliament often. He was a Minister of Works and Housing before. I refer to the Honourable Collins Dauda. Collins Dauda has not won his seat by more than 10 votes before. Every time, five, six, three, two, one.” (Watch from 0:55)
Fact-check
GhanaFact reviewed Parliamentary election results from the Electoral Commission, the Election Command database produced by TV3 and ModernGhana.
Our checks show that between 2008 and 2024, a period spanning five election cycles, Collins Dauda, in his years of contesting for the Asutifi South seat, won only once with a 14-vote margin in 2008.
In the four other elections, he won by 3,257 votes in 2012, 3,829 votes in 2016, 2,659 votes in 2020 and 3,928 votes in 2024.
| Year | Victory Margin | Win Percentage |
| 2008 (Modern Ghana) | 14 | 49.85% |
| 2012 (Election Command) | 3,257 | 55.44% |
| 2016 (Election Command) | 3,829 | 56.67% |
| 2020 (EC Gazette) | 2,659 | 53.37%) |
| 2024 (EC website) | 3,928 | 55.31% |

Notably, his 14-vote margin in 2008 remains the narrowest victory in his parliamentary journey. Across all parliamentary elections from 1992 to 2024, he has never won by fewer than 10 votes. His closest was in 2008 with 14 votes.
Verdict:
The claim that Collins Duada has never won the parliamentary seat by more than 10 votes is rated false!
Collins Dauda’s Political Journey
Collins Dauda is a veteran politician and a long-serving member of Parliament for Asutifi South constituency in the Ahafo Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His political journey dates back to the early years of the Fourth Republic. In 1992, Collins Dauda won the Asutifi South Constituency parliamentary seat in the first Parliamentary elections of the Fourth Republic after the opposition parties boycotted the polls over concerns about the fairness of the November 1992 Presidential elections, and he served from 1993 to 1996.
Collins Dauda retained the seat in the 1996 elections and served until 2000, when he lost the election to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirant, Cecilia Djan Amoah. He returned to Parliament in 2004 and has since won every election for the Asutifi South seat.
Before becoming a parliamentarian, Collins Dauda was also a member of the Consultative Assembly that drafted Ghana’s 1992 constitution between 1991 and 1992.
In 2009, he was appointed Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources under John Evans-Atta Mills’ administration and was later reassigned to the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing.
