A vertically stacked video with two quote cards shows claims about the Builsa North Member of Parliament James Agalga’s visit to the Hajj village and President Mahama’s recent comment on the National Cathedral project.
The quote card at the top half of the video had a caption that read: “Majority Leader, James Agalga tours $14.6 Million Hajj Village being constructed at the Kotoka International Airport,” and is accompanied by a UTV report of Agalga’s visit to the Hajj Village site.
The quote card at the bottom had an image of President Mahama and an inset of the National Cathedral’s artistic impression, the caption read, “If Christians want a National Cathedral, they can build it themselves”.
This post was shared on X on September 14, 2026 by an account known as Elephant Heritage Club, and captioned, “The Hajj Village project is one that is very dear to our President,” James Agalga – Majority Leader.”

GhanaFact observed that this video was circulated online shortly after President Mahama spoke about the construction of the National Cathedral during his regional tour in Wa on September 12, 2026.
This fact-check will verify the claim that James Agalga as Majority Leader had visited the Hajj Village.
Fact check
GhanaFact found that the video of the Builsa North MP, James Agalga, touring the Hajj Village, was posted on February 16, 2026, during Agalga’s visit to inspect the ongoing Hajj Village project. At the time, he was leading a team comprising the Board and Management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
The Builsa North MP, who still holds the GACL Board Chairman role, became the Majority Leader on August 24, 2026, replacing Mahama Ayariga, who was appointed Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
During the visit, Agalga disclosed that the construction was executed under a land swap agreement, rather than through direct funding from the national budget or the Ghana Airport Company Limited. He also described the project as one that was important to President Mahama, which part of his submission was played in the video being fact-checked.
From the above, Agalga was not a Majority Leader at the time he led a delegation to visit the Hajj Village, the claim is therefore misleading.
Verdict
The claim that James Agalga was Majority Leader when he toured the Hajj Village is misleading.
