Verdict: False

Ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership contest on Saturday, January 31, 2026, GhanaFact has come across a video purporting to show Dr Mahamudu Bawumia endorsing another contender, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The video was shared on X, with a caption that read: “JUST IN: In a powerful show of unity, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has endorsed Ken Ohene Agyapong and urged all delegates to vote Number 1 on January 31st.”
In the 45-second video, Dr Bawumia is heard speaking in Twi, urging delegates to vote for the candidate at the number one spot of the ballot. Although he didn’t mention the candidate in question, captions in the video suggest he had “officially endorsed Ken Ohene Agyapong.”

Dr Bawumia is among the five contenders of the New Patriotic Party’s January 31, 2026, presidential primary contest, which will produce the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
This report will verify the claim that Bawumia has endorsed his main rival Ken Agyapong.
Fact-check
In verifying the claim, GhanaFact used the keyframes feature of InVID verification tool and Google Reverse Image Search function to determine when the video first appeared on the internet.
Our investigation showed that the video was from the 2024 general elections, where Dr Bawumia was the number one candidate on the ballot paper; however, parts of the video has now been altered to suggest that Dr Bawumia has endorsed Ken Ohene Agyapong.
The original video, which was 52 seconds long (archived here), showed Dr Bawumia, the 2024 NPP presidential candidate, urging Ghanaians to vote for him as the number one candidate on the ballot paper in the elections.
This video was also shared (archived here) on social media by NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye on December 7, 2024.

GhanaFact has also observed that portions of the original video has been cut and pieced together to spin the narrative of the endorsement. This is a classical case of cheap fakes.
Cheap fakes are altered media that has been changed through conventional and affordable technology.
According to Media Manipulation Casebook, a research platform that advances knowledge of misinformation and disinformation, social media examples of cheap fake techniques include photoshopping (including face swapping), lookalikes, as well as speeding and slowing video.
Additionally, Dr Bawumia’s team has not announced that he is staying out of the 2026 flagbearer race, nor has he endorsed Ken Agyapong.
Verdict
Therefore, the video circulating that Bawumia has endorsed Ken Agyapong is False.
