A widely-circulated quote card claims that the new U.S. Attorney General, Todd Blanche, criticised Ghana’s previous government over refusal to extradite people involved in romance scams until the United States apologised for the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
This claim surfaced after the recent extradition of two Ghanaians to the U.S; among them Frederick Kumi popularly known as Abu Trica in July 2026 and Joseph Kwadwo Badu Boateng also known as Dada Joe in June 2026. It was also circulated a day after Blanche’s appearance before a Senate Committee for confirmation as Donald Trump’s new Attorney General.
The quote card was shared by Dr. Joshua Zaato, a senior lecturer at University of Ghana, on his Facebook wall on July 15, 2026 with a caption: “The God of Akufo Addo is a living God’

GhanaFact reviewed the full confirmation proceedings of Todd Blanche, when he appeared before the US Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 and responded to questions on a range of local issues including the handling of the Epstein files, independence from Trump, anti-weaponisation fund and concerns about a Trump third-term. GhanaFact analyzed a YouTube transcript of Blanche’s Senate hearing and found that he did not at any point mention Ghana or matters to do with extradition and or apologies over slavery or the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
We also observed that the viral quote card had the logo of “BBC News” at the top-left section of the flyer. We therefore reviewed the British broadcaster’s live coverage of the event and its social media handles , but did not come across the purported quote card.
At the time of publication, Blanche was still acting Attorney General because he had yet to be confirmed by the Senate – the Committee and the House as a whole.
Verdict:
The claim about Blanche is therefore rated false and the quote card is fake!
