Source: Social media (TikTok and X)

Verdict: False

Researched by Gifty Danso

A viral flyer claims Russian President Vladimir Putin has commented on the case of a Russian citizen accused of secretly filming some Ghanaian women during his sexual encounter with them and subsequently posting the videos online.

The flyer was shared on TikTok and X, with a quote attributed to Putin. “If anything happens to my Russian national, Ghana is going to suffer more than Ukraine. It’s war, extradition or peace? The country should choose one,” the quote read.

At the time of filing this report, the post garnered at least 145,000 views on X, and on TikTok, it was posted by two accounts: one by the originator of the flyer (Hyperbole Hub) and another account. Both had been shared over 20,000 times.

Fact-check

GhanaFact observed that the page that produced the flyer, known as the “Hyperbole Hub,” on TikTok stated in its bio that they are engaged in SATIRE AND IRONY. It also issued a disclaimer that said: “NO DEFAMATION.”

An analysis of content posted on the page showed that the majority of the content shared on the page were for satirical value.

Despite the disclaimers on the page, some of their content have gone viral on other social media platforms, potentially misinforming users who are not privy to the kind of content they circulate.  In January, we debunked a similar flyer from the “Hyperbole hub” that Donald Trump responded to Ghana’s press release regarding the raid that led to the arrest of then Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro.

Verdict

The claim is therefore false! The flyer is for satire purposes.
