Uganda held its general elections on January 15, 2026. The Electoral Commission announced the official results on January 17, declaring incumbent President Yoweri Museveni the winner with 71.65% of the votes, securing a seventh consecutive term in office.
The post-election period was marked by heightened political tension, scrutiny of the electoral process, and intense online debate.
In the weeks following Uganda’s January 2026 general elections, FactSpace monitored a surge of viral social media posts claiming that United States President Donald Trump has threatened and planned action against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The claims circulated on Facebook from January 25, 2026, gaining significant engagement and fuelling online speculation about foreign intervention in Uganda’s political affairs.
On January 25, 2026, a Facebook user shared a flyer attributed to a channel known as ‘Western TV’ featuring the image of President Donald Trump. The accompanying message read: “Breaking News: Uganda sighs relief as Trump plans to end the rule of dictator Museveni and son Muhoozi! Hello Uganda. I have heard your cries. I am coming. Donald Trump.”
The post attracted over 3,000 likes, 593 comments and 97 shares.
Another Facebook post claimed that “Donald Trump’s administration has issued a warrant of arrest of President Museveni accusing him of harassing journalists, Bobi Wine and Besigye during the recent elections.”

An account named Kenya News Flash also shared a flyer with a message that suggested Trump had responded to the Ugandan Army Chief.
The post has attracted over 8,000 comments, 60,000 likes and 936 shares.

Fact-Check
To verify the claims, FactSpace West Africa reviewed posts on the official social media pages of Donald Trump (Truth Social, X and Facebook). We also reviewed posts from the White House social media accounts, and found no statements, announcements, or evidence indicating that President Trump threatened to invade Uganda.
In addition, a search of international news organisations did not show any report supporting the claims that Trump issued arrest warrants, threatened military intervention, or made the quoted statements circulating online.
Meanwhile, the claim shared by the account, Kenya News Flash has been labelled by Facebook as False information citing a report by third-party fact-checking organization, Africa Check.

Therefore there is no evidence that U.S President Donald Trump made statements regarding political action against President Yoweri Museveni or Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Verdict
The claim is false.
