Fact-Check

The last parliamentary sitting, which was the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of Ghana, was adjourned sine die (indefinitely) on March 27, 2026. This means Parliament is currently not in session at the time this video was shared.

Using Google reverse image search, GhanaFact traced the video to July 2024. The reshared video was originally published by Citi 97.3 FM on July 10, 2024 during a power outage at the Parliament House at the time.

Other media outlets at the time of the incident in July 2024 published news articles here, here and here. Although the video is authentic, it is not recent and does not reflect any current blackout at the lawmaking complex.

It is worth noting that some people in the comment section pointed out that the video was old, including one who said: “Old video from Npp admins. Parliament will resume in October. Stop misleading people. Others made similar comments here, here, here.

Verdict

Therefore, the claim that there was a recent power outage in Parliament is misleading.
