Misleading! Videos of Citi FM show on presidency communications unrelated to Mahama’s appointments

Claim: Citi FM discusses Mahama’s loaded appointments to presidency communications team

Source: Social media (X)

Verdict: Misleading

Researched by Gifty Danso

Videos showing the host and panel of Citi FM Breakfast Show known as Citi CBS discussing communication personnel at the presidency during former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure have been portrayed online as a recent review of President John Mahama’s appointments.

The videos shared by an X user by name Edward Acquah-Baidoo (username @AcquahEfKab) on February 24, 2025, were captioned; “e shock you? we’ve not seen anything yet. abi we say we want it? ego over we soon. 3y3 zu bia?”

Misleading! Videos of Citi FM show on presidency communications unrelated to Mahama’s appointments

Fig 1 – A screenshot from the viral post on X

It showed Bernard Avle, Godfred Akoto, Kokui Salomey, and Nathan Quao discussing government appointments of people to various portfolios.

The post appeared to be a critique of the John Mahama government and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), as “3Y3 zu” is a popular slogan of the NDC.

The post has been shared 263 times, with 733 likes and 212.9k views, and this fact-check seeks to verify the authenticity of the video.

Fact-check

GhanaFact’s investigation shows that even though the videos are not recent and are excerpts of a live broadcast of the Citi CBS, the media organisation (Citi FM) no longer has the live feed of the video on any of the social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, and Soundcloud.

However, GhanaFact found the same video shared by an X account on January 16, 2023.

In an online report on citinewsroom.com, the media organisation debunked the claim, citing the January 16, 2023, video.

Also, Citinewsroom in its fact-check on the recirculated video indicated that two of its staff shown in the viral misleading video no longer work with the organisation.

“Further scrutiny of the panel confirms the video is outdated. Kokui Selormey left Citi FM in 2023, and Nathan Quao exited in January 2025. Since both had left the station before Mahama took office and made any ministerial appointments, they could not have been discussing his administration’s decisions,” the report said.

Also, Nathan Quao who acted as the host on the day the discussion was held shared a post on X which reads; “I can’t believe it. You post a video to make it look like it’s a 2025 one but two of the four people in the video don’t work at the media house anymore and you think people won’t notice? Ah!!! Or he thinks people are that dumb? I am curious.”

From the discussions in the videos, the panelists refer to the Ministry of Information, which does not exist under the current government. The job of Minister of Information is currently assigned to the Minister of Government Communications. The last Information Minister was Fatimatu Abubakar, who was appointed by the erstwhile government.

Verdict

Therefore, the video shared by the X user is misleading.

Note: GhanaFact reached out to the X user with the findings of our report. We did not get a response.
