Claim: Alleged Facebook post of Anne Sansa Daly claiming she is President John Mahama’s personal doctor

Source: Social media

Verdict: FALSE

Researched by GhanaFact Newsroom

A screenshot allegedly showing a Facebook post of Anne Sansa Daly, has been trending on social media platforms, following the revocation of her appointment as a board member of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

According to the Facebook post, Anne, via a supposed December 10, 2024, post on the popular social media platform, congratulated the then president-elect John Dramani Mahama for his electoral victory and went further to disclose that she had served as Mahama’s personal doctor.

The post has attracted significant interaction online, including comments and shares on Facebook (here, here, here) and X (here, here, here, here).

“The thought that the NDC medical doctor, Anne Sansa Daly was Mahama’s personal physician is sickening” and “Chale our president’s health is more important to us despite politics. How did this fake Dr managed to be Mahama’s personal physician? Like how!!!!” Some netizens have reacted to the viral claim on social media while sharing the screenshot of the Facebook post.

This report seeks to authenticate the viral image.

Fact-Check

GhanaFact did a visual analysis of the viral screenshot and ran the post through two fake image detector platforms as part of our investigations.

Some major differences were identified between the viral image and a normal Facebook post.

  1. The date format on the viral post, December 10, 2024, is different from the normal format the platform uses, 10 Dec 2024.
  2. The size of the date on the viral post is as big as the username compared to a bold username and a smaller date on a normal post on Facebook.
  3. The WhatsApp share icon is missing on the viral post as compared to a normal Facebook post.
  4. The account with the name Anne Sansa Daly is currently not available on Facebook, and GhanaFact is unable to trace any link associated with same. Meanwhile, some Facebook users have suggested the account has been deactivated (here, here).
  5. There is a line separating the reaction data and options for interacting with the Facebook post which is usually not present in normal Facebook posts.

Fake image detector

As part of our forensic analysis of the viral screengrab, GhanaFact ran the image through a fake image detector platform. Such platforms are open-source tools that help users identify manipulated, AI-generated, and edited images.

The first tool used was the fakeimagedetector.com platform, a remarkable tool equipped to tell the difference between genuine and doctored images by harnessing cutting-edge approaches like Metadata Analysis and ELA Analysis.

GhanaFact after running the image through the fakeimagedetector.com platform, it returned a verdict that the image looks like it was computer-generated or modified.

Government spokesperson reacts

In an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa TV, Minister of State in charge of government communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, dismissed the claims that Anne had at any point served as the personal physician to the president.

“I have known President Mahama’s physician for several years. He is a very experienced doctor with many years in practice. This lady is nowhere near president Mahama, so it is never true that she was a personal physician to the president,” he said.

“I can tell you on authority she is not President Mahama’s physician. I know President Mahama’s physician very well, he is a learned and highly qualified medical practitioner. He has been with the president long before he became president,” he stressed.

Verdict

From the above, our findings combining the visual inconsistencies on the post and the results of the image detector show that the image is manipulated and is fake.
