Claim: Nothing has changed in the lives of Ghanaians since Mahama took office
Source: Social media
Verdict: Misleading
Researched by Gifty Danso
On February 4, 2026, a 13-second video showing the national chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, saying nothing has changed since supporters voted John Dramani Mahama into office as President, was widely shared on social media platforms (X, Facebook and TikTok).
The video was being shared by pro-opposition accounts on X, (here, and here). It was also shared by Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with the caption: “What is happening here? Chairman, the truth shall set you free…Don’t mind the attack after speaking the truth…” Another user captioned his post as: “Asiedu Nketiah speaks truth to power! Mahama is still incompetent,” among others.
In the said clip, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, who was speaking in Twi can be heard saying: “You were campaigning ɛyɛ zu…, now Mahama has been elected. Aren’t you wearing the same old scarf of yours, aren’t your shoes the same old shoes you are still wearing?”

This fact-check will verify the claim as to whether the NDC national chairman was openly criticizing the John Mahama administration.
Fact-check
Visual analysis of the video showed that Asiedu Nketiah was speaking at a forum in the Shama Constituency, whose Member of Parliament, Emelia Arthur could be seen seated among dignitaries on the stage.
The video that came to our attention also had a watermark of a Facebook page, Bent Blog online which is based in that same constituency. This platform posted a longer version of the NDC national chairman’s address, which captured him admonishing party supporters to ignore trolls from rival opposition supporters.
In the longer video, he is heard addressing the gathering about the need to not allow political opponents to mock them into feeling that their hard work to win the 2024 presidential election has not been sufficiently compensated:
“Our brothers in the NPP are very good at mockery, they will mock you with any position that you have vied for and not gotten, they will see you and comment that: ‘Hajia, were the one who used to disturb us during the campaigns. ɛyɛ zu, prrr sɛ prrrrr, now Mahama has been elected.
“Aren’t you wearing the same old scarf of yours? Aren’t your shoes the same old shoes you are still wearing? They would mock you continuously, and if you do not restrain yourself, then you’d begin to breed bad thoughts… we beg you, anyone who indulges in those thoughts, go and pray…”
In conclusion, we found that the viral video was taken from a longer version in which the NDC national chairman is speaking in a context and not directly or explicitly attacking the president as is being portrayed online.
Verdict
The video showing Asiedu Nketiah saying nothing has changed in the lives of party supporters under John Mahama as president, is misleading.
