The Ghana Fact-checking Coalition (GFC), on January 29, 2025, launched a report on its work during Ghana’s 2024 general elections which began from December 4 to December 11.

The report titled ‘Countering Electoral Disinformation: Lessons From Ghana’s 2024 Elections,’ highlights the coalition’s work in tackling mis/disinformation over an 8-day period across two Media Situation Rooms – in Accra and Tamale.

Major highlights of the GFC’s findings included the centrality of social media as a major mis/disinformation platform and how politically aligned persons exploited different platforms.

Kwaku Krobea Asante, a representative from the coalition highlighted the importance of the work done during the crucial elections and called for more support.

The launch happened in Accra with support from major stakeholders like the Electoral Commission (EC), the Election Security Taskforce and the National Media Commission (NMC).

The GFC coalition is made up of three fact-checking organisations – Dubawa Ghana, a project of the Center for Journalism, Innovation and Development (CJID); Fact-Check Ghana, a project of the Media Foundation for West Africa and GhanaFact, a project of FactSpace West Africa. All three are signatories of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).
