While on X, posts of the video had captions such as “Asiedu Nketia (General Mosquito) has launched his flagbearership campaign already?” and “Chairman Asiedu Nketiah is the most experienced and the best for the NDC flagbearership position. In principle, no one should contest him… Asiedu Nketiah for president!!!”

Using InVID Verification Tool and Google reverse image search, GhanaFact traced the video to a Facebook post shared in 2022.

In October 2022, Asiedu Nketiah shared the original video on his Facebook page as part of his chairmanship campaign launch, with the caption: “The Akatamanso family is gathering on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the Kama Conference Centre in Accra at 2.30 pm. Come join me launch my campaign to serve the great NDC as National Chairman. Eye Zu! Eye Za!!”

In the original 1-minute and 54-second video Asiedu Nketiah is heard saying: “Hello Akatamansonians, comrades, friends and sympathisers of our great party, National Democratic Congress, here is your General, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah. I picked my nomination forms to lead the party as the National Chairman into victory, 2024.

“I will be launching my campaign at the KAMA Conference Center on Tuesday, 25th October at exactly 2:30 p.m. I am inviting the leadership and members of the National Democratic Congress across the country, especially members of the National Executive Committee, members of the Regional Executive Committee, members of the Constituency Executive Committee, the Professional forum of NDC, the cadres of the revolution, the United Cadre Front, the young cadres and the rank and file of the party. The communicators and our foot soldiers, don’t be left out. Join the victory team. Join the history making event at KAMA Conference Center this Tuesday. Eye zu…”

The recent video is only the first 15 seconds of the original 2022 campaign launch video, deliberately cut and recycled to mislead the public into thinking it is a declaration of his flagbearership bid.

GhanaFact noted that the account from which the 15-second video is shared belongs to people who identified with the New Patriotic Party, such as Sandra Ewool and Castin Billz.

Meanwhile, during an interview with JoyNews on June 25, 2025, Asiedu Nketiah dismissed conversations about flagbearership aspirations, noting that the focus should remain on the performance and success of the current administration.

“There are a whole lot of challenges that could emerge if you prematurely just go out there shouting, I’m going to be this, I’m going to be that, I’m going to be this. That’s why I think that it is early days yet, six months into the life of a new government, we should not be talking about who replaces President Mahama in 4 years time…We are not there yet,” he said.

Verdict

The claim that Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has announced his bid to join the 2028 NDC flagbearership race is False. The video in circulation is from 2022 when Asiedu Nketiah launched his chairmanship campaign.
