False! Trump has not responded to Ghana’s position on Venezuela crisis, circulating flyer is Fake

On January 4, 2026, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued an official press release concerning the January 3 “abduction” of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by US special forces. 

A day after the publication of the statement, a flyer shared on social media (X and TikTok) claimed the United States’ President Donald Trump had responded to Ghana’s position.

The January 5, 2026 flyer shared on X read: “I’ve read the press release from the Ghanaian government demanding the release of Venezuela’s president. When Ghana speaks, the USA listens – so we’ll act accordingly. But woe betide anyone who dares to challenge the United States.”

The post on X has gained over over 335,000 views, 369 comments, over 6,900 likes, 540 reposts and 221 bookmarks.

This report seeks to verify whether President Trump has reacted to the statement by the Ghanaian government.

Fact-Check

To verify the authenticity of the claimed response by Donald Trump, GhanaFact reviewed posts on the official pages of Donald Trump (Truth Social, X and Facebook). We also did the same for the White House’ social media handles, there was no statement responding to Ghana’s press release.

A search of international news organisations revealed no report of Trump responding to Ghana’s statement was published.

Further checks on the official website and communication channels of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also showed no report or acknowledgement of such a response.

An analysis of the flyer also showed that it had misinformation elements including the following:

• There is no identifiable source for the quote (White House, Department of State etc.)
• The flyer is not linked with any (credible) media house 

Based on these findings, there is no evidence that President Donald Trump made the comments attributed to him in the circulating flyer.
