A video posted on social media claimed that as part of Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary preparations, the government had planned to paint 1.28 million houses in collaboration with a private paint company.
The 36-second video posted on X by ASK on October 7, 2026, had a caption: “The Government of Ghana is set to paint about 1.28 million houses to give the nation a new face ahead of its 70th anniversary on 6th March 2027, with 3Trees Ghana Painting Limited selected to undertake the project.” The video shows a group of people seated in a conference hall with a man, who our checks show is Mr. Samson Deen, heard talking about plans to beautify Ghana ahead of March 2027 Independence Day celebration.
“Ghana will be 70 on 6th of March 2027, and we want to give a new birth to Ghana by brightening Ghana. In the vision of His Excellency, the President of the Republic and that of the Chief of Staff, the Vice President and the people of Ghana, we want 2027 to be a new phase of the Republic.
“Data shows that about 1.28 million households are to be painted, hence we call it (the) Brighten Ghana Initiative. With the support of chairman Chu, he was able to identify 3Trees as the company that has the capacity to do this,” Samson Deen, who is President of both the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) and the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC Ghana), said.

Based on the viral X post, Kwadwo Sheldon Studios (KSS) amplified the claim in a full discussion on its YouTube page on October 8, 2026. Similar posts around the subject were made on other social media accounts (here, here, here, here).

This report will verify the claim about plans to paint over 1.28 million houses.
Fact-check
GhanaFact reviewed government’s official pages and news reports and found no evidence of an initiative to paint 1.28 million houses ahead of Ghana’s 70th Anniversary.
GhanaFact also found a post on Universal Merchant Bank (UMB )’s Facebook page on August 27, 2026, about the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with 3Trees Ghana Painting Limited to allow individuals use its digital platform to purchase the company’s products at discounted prices.
GhanaFact reviewed the social media pages of 3Trees Ghana Limited, (Facebook, Instagram and TikTok) and found a picture reel with 3Trees CEO Zheng Xian Chun, Samson Deen, and UMB CEO, Dr Philip Oti-Mensah during the official signing of Brighten Ghana Initiative on August 31, 2026.
GhanaFact found an image of the same signing video posted on September 1, 2026 on Facebook by 3Trees Paint Global with the caption, “Exciting update! 3TREES has officially launched the “Brighten Ghana” project in Accra! This key Ghana 70th independence livelihood project will upgrade local living spaces with our tropical climate-adapted, eco-friendly coating solutions. We bring durable, healthy and green building protection to West Africa, empowering local urban renewal and China-Africa green cooperation.”

We also found that on July 14, 2026, 3Trees presented painting materials, scaffolding, labour, and all painting-related expenses to paint the exterior of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) headquarters as part of its corporate social responsibility, at no cost to the government.
A further search revealed a July 16, 2026 post on UMB’s Instagram page announcing its partnership with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in advancing the Brighten Ghana Initiative. In the post UMB added that it was developing a digital platform as part of its role as the official Banking Partner and Settlement Bank for the initiative.
- GhanaFact reviewed the information collected and found that the Brighten Ghana Initiative signing was a private partnership not linked with the government.
- UMB is tasked with developing a digital platform to aid individuals purchase 3Trees products at discounted prices.
- The initiative appears to be a strategic marketing effort by 3Trees ahead of Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary.
GhanaFact reached out to the Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, who told us via WhatsApp that: “I will find out.”
We reached out to 3Trees, Samson Deen (via Facebook Messenger and email) and KSS Studios (via email and X DM) seeking clarification on the different issues but none of them have responded to our request for clarification.
Verdict:
From the above, the claim is false.
