FactSpace West Africa has passed the one million views mark on its TikTok channel (@factspacewa) after close to 10 months of posting short-form videos of our publications.
The channel also crossed the 10,000 followers mark and hit over 60,000 likes – a culmination of sustained efforts at translating our editorial outputs into reels.
That decision, taken early this year, was to leverage the power of short-form videos (reels) to share our fact-checks, analysis pieces, investigative stories, media and information literacy and other text-heavy content. The journey has been as challenging as it has been thrilling.
“Hitting a million views for a product that is not purely entertainment is a big win for the FactSpace team. Video products, when well packaged, travel further than the reports that the newsroom produces week in and out,” Nusrat Essah, a fact-checker and projects officer, said.

The highs, lows and riding waves
Our first video on this journey was on January 8, 2026, when we posted a video debunking a series of false claims about Ebo Noah following his failed December 2025 end-of-the-world prophecy.
Since Noah, the report-to-reel journey has allowed us to translate fact-checks about the President, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, former government officials, journalists, musicians, random social media users and newsmakers outside Ghana into the simplest consumable format.
From cocoa prices to mid-year budget records, fake cocaine trade data and the size of Walewale, our top 5 videos are as follows:
- Is the cocoa price in the Ivory Coast far lower than in Ghana? We fact-checked this claim from Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson and found it to be False.
- Captain Smart said of the 2026 mid-year budget: “This is the very first time a finance minister has read a mid-year budget and hasn’t requested a supplementary budget; it has never before happened.” The claim is FALSE! Ofori-Atta and Amin Adam have previously not requested supplementary funding in mid-year budgets.
- (TWI VERSION) False! Ghana is NOT ranked second in Africa as a cocaine transit hub.
- After the deadly June 29 floods in Accra, the GARID project became topical in post-flood discussions. In this report, we explore the importance of the project and concerns surrounding its implementation.
- Is Walewale constituency bigger than the Greater Accra Region? We fact-checked a claim by Walewale MP Kabiru Mahama Tiah and found it false!
“While TikTok is the primary platform for our reels, short-form videos typically have cross-platform appeal, so we post them on our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and YouTube pages,” editor at FactSpace West Africa, Alfa Shaban, observed.

Reports to reels presentation at 2026 Africa Facts summit in Nairobi
FactSpace West Africa will share insights on our TikTok product with participants at the upcoming Africa Facts summit scheduled this month in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
Gifty Danso, a research associate and fact-checker, will be presenting a breakout session on the topic, “Making Facts Visible: A Design Sprint for Fact-Checkers.”
Gifty will share learnings from our 10-month journey of turning text-heavy fact-checks into short-form video, drawing on the close to 100 videos FactSpace has so far produced.
The Africa Facts Summit 2026 will take place on 21-22 October 2026 at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya.
“I am looking forward to the summit. The Africa Facts summit allows people in the information integrity space to share ideas, and this is exactly what FactSpace will be doing. We will sell the gospel of how reels must be leveraged to reach audiences. I can’t wait,” Gifty said.
