A viral video on social media has suggested that the President of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump, has lauded Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, for his leadership and dedication to Ghana’s progress.
In the video, President Trump is heard saying, “I want to take a moment to appreciate President Mahama of Ghana for his leadership and dedication to the country’s progress. Under his guidance, Ghana has seen remarkable growth. I admire his vision and efforts to strengthen Ghana’s position on the global stage, a true leader.”
This claim has been shared on Facebook and TikTok (here and here), sparking debates considering President Donald Trump’s recent Executive Orders targeting countries including Ghana.
This fact-check will verify the authenticity of the video.
Fact-check
Through a frame-by-frame analysis of the video, GhanaFact identified inconsistencies in the lip movement of President Trump and the unnatural sound of his voice; these two features are notable shortcomings of AI-generated videos.
To verify if the video was AI-generated, GhanaFact used Hive Moderation AI verification tool. It returned an aggregate score of 99.6% AI-generated or deepfake content. “Overall, the video is likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content,” the result stated.

To trace the source of the original video used to create the viral AI-generated one, GhanaFact took a screengrab of one of the keyframes in the viral video and conducted a reverse image search.
The search revealed that the viral video of President Trump allegedly acknowledging the leadership of President Mahama is a manipulated version of a March 7, 2025, media engagement at the White House where Trump fielded questions from journalists. (see here and here).
During the engagement, Trump discussed various topics, including the war in Ukraine, his efforts to broker a peace deal, the US economy, trade policies, and his criticism of the previous administration’s handling of these issues, but he did not make any mention of President Mahama or Ghana.
The above evidence proves that the video of President Trump commending President Mahama for his leadership and dedication to Ghana’s progress is AI-generated.
Verdict
The claim is therefore rated false and the video is AI-generated!
