Claim: Samuel Nartey George,  Minister for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation spotted watching porn in parliament

Source: Social media

Verdict: False!

Researched by Samuel Nii Adjetey

A photo showing Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram and Minister for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation, Sam George, typing in his WhatsApp messenger, is being portrayed online as him watching pornography.

The manipulated photo, which has the logo of TV3, a leading Ghanaian media organisation, started going viral on February 4, 2025, during the day’s parliamentary proceedings and has garnered a lot of reactions on social media (X and Facebook) by the Ghanaian populace. (Here, here, here, here, here, and here).

The photo was further amplified on the floor of the Parliament of Ghana by the representative for the Damongo Constituency, Samuel Abu Jinapor while speaking on the Appointments Committee’s report about Sam George.

“The Honorable Sam George, As an elder of the Perez Chapel, and as somebody who espouses his Christian values, (he) should also be mindful of what he watches when he’s in parliament …especially when serious business is being conducted in the House…”, he said.

Fact-check

To verify the photo in circulation, GhanaFact ran a Reverse Image Search and found that the image was first shared by TV3, but shows the MP for Ningo typing in his WhatsApp messenger.

Evidence shows that the media organisation shared on Thread, six (6) photos of Members of Parliament standing in groups on the floor of Parliament while others sat in isolation.

A cursory analysis of the image in circulation showed that the screen of the original image was edited and replaced with a pornographic scene.  FACT-CHECK: Viral photo of Sam George allegedly watching porn in parliament is Manipulated!A screengrab of the original photo shared that was firstly shared by TV3

Minutes after the post surfaced online, TV3 debunked it on their X handle by sharing both the original image and the fake image in circulation with the caption:

“Our attention has been drawn to a fake post circulating on social media. We want to state categorically that what is circulating is not from TV3.”

Sam George also reacted to the disinformation content on his Facebook and X handles. His post, accompanied by the original and doctored photo read:

“It is clear to me that the NPP is so hurt by my nomination as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations and would stop at nothing to fight it. After failing to mobilise their own Caucus in Parliament to vote against my nomination, they have resorted to a smear campaign and cheap lies with fake photos.”
