The Electoral Commission of Ghana has declared former President John Dramani Mahama winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election.

The certified results confirmed that Mahama won with 6,328,397 votes representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast.

His main contender, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes representing 41.61%.

The announcement of Monday, December 9, was made by EC Chairman, Jean Mensa, at the premises of the National Collation Center.

Mahama’s victory is complemented by a big win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in terms of seats won in Ghana’s 276-seat Parliament.

The EC chair stated that the results as announced is without results from nine constituencies that are inconclusive at the time of the announcement.

“In the event that all the valid voters from the nine constituencies above voted for the candidate who came second, the total number of votes he would garner would be 5,604,420, representing 46.17% of the total valid votes which would have been 12,138,538.

“The inclusion of the nine constituencies would have given the leading candidate 52.13% which is still greater than the 50% + 1 votes required to be declared a winner,” Jean Mensa said.
