During his presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year fiscal policy review on July 24, 2025, Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, claimed that the price of Yazz sanitary pads had dropped from GH¢25 in January 2025 to GH¢15 by July 2025.
The Minister told Parliament in his presentation, “The price of Yazz Sanitary Pad, which was GH¢25 in January, is now going for GH¢15.” The ministry subsequently shared flyers to highlight key points in the statement, including one dedicated to the price of the sanitary pad.

This report seeks to verify whether;
- Yazz Sanitary Pad was indeed selling at GH¢25 in January
- The current price is GH¢15.
Fact-Check
GhanaFact visited vendors at various locations in the Greater Accra and Central Regions to verify the price of the particular brand in January 2025 and the current price.
According to the team’s findings, the price of the pad varies across different locations, with most vendors currently selling it between GH¢17.99 and GH¢20.
AT the Ashaiman main market, one vendor confirmed selling it at GH¢15, at the wholesale price, which is in line with the Minister’s price, whereas at the Achimota Melcom branch, Kasoa-Ofankor, Abokobi, and Kweiman-Danfa, the prices ranged from GH¢17.99 to GH¢20.
At Abokobi, the vendor recalled selling it for as high as GH¢27 in January but noted that the price has dropped to GH¢18.
In Kweiman-Danfa, the vendor stated that the price has remained at GH¢20 since December last year, though it had reached GH¢25 at some point.
A number of the vendors could not confirm the exact price of the product in January but indicated that while the price had fluctuated in the past, it remained relatively stable in recent months.
Below is a breakdown of the findings:
| Area | Current price | Jan. 2025 price | Vendor comments |
| Melcom Achimota branch | 17.99 p | NA | The price is commensurate with what is on the Melcom website |
| 1. Ashiaman Main Market 2. Retail pharmacy | 15.00 18.00 | NA | NA |
| Kasoa- Ofankor | 18.00 | NA | It is currently GH¢18. I don’t think it has ever gotten to GH¢25, but at a point, it got to GH¢20. And it is currently 18, and it has been 18 for a long time.” |
| Abokobi Market | 18 | 27.00 | “At the beginning of the year, I used to sell the pad (Yazz Sanitary pad) for 27 cedis because of the market price at the time, but I now sell it at 18 cedis for one because the price has reduced a bit”, he said. |
| Kweiman- Danfa | 20.00 | 20.00 | The product had been selling at GH¢20 since December last year, although at some point that year, it was GH¢25. My current price is also based on old stock, which is why no significant changes have been made. |
The data suggests that while some vendors sold Yazz sanitary pads at around GH¢25 earlier in the year, it was not a uniform market price. Current prices have generally declined, but only one vendor confirmed a current price of GH¢15, while most are selling it between GH¢18 and GH¢20.
Therefore, the Minister’s claim that the price of the product has dropped to GH¢15 holds in a few cases, but GH¢15 is not the average or standard price across all locations.
Additionally, while the price is not consistent across locations, none of the vendors confirmed it at GH¢25 in January 2025.
Verdict
Therefore, the claim is partly true.
