A Facebook post by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has set tongues wagging on social media, generating about 7,300 engagements, and leading the trends on twitter in Ghana at a point on July 28. But how accurate is the Vice President’s list of 50 achievements under the NPP as compared to the NDC?
A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, claims Ghana’s GDP growth rate in 2016 is the lowest in the fourth republic. But GhanaFact checks show the claim is false.
NDC Member of Parliament (MP), Okudzeto Ablakwa claims number of WASSCE candidates under the previous NDC administration increased more than the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. However, GhanaFact using the same data source (WAEC) and metric used by the legislator found the claim is false.
NDC MP Dr Clement Apaak has claimed there has been a decline in the total number of candidates expected to write the 2020 WASSCE compared to the year before. However, following GhanaFact checks we found the claim to be false. Meanwhile, the legislator in an interview said:”My claim was based on what government churned-out.”
In less than a week, online portal- myafricatoday.net has published two (2) stories about Dr Paa Kwasi Nduom and Prof Stephen Adei that have turned out to be false.
A statement allegedly signed by the Regional Director of Health Services- Central region, Dr Akosua Agyeiwaa Owusu-Sarpong is being shared on social media as proof of this claim. Following GhanaFact checks, we have confirmed the authenticity of the statement and the latest changes in COVID-19 surveillance in the Central region.
At the Finance Ministry, Chief Director Patrick Numo confirmed, “it is true we[Ghana] got 100 million dollars from the World Bank, 1.250 billion cedis from the stabilisation fund, 1 billion dollars from the IMF and 5.5 billion cedis from the Bank of Ghana,” but added it was the Controller and Accountant General’s Department that could confirm the exact figures that had entered government coffers.
